The Norwegian Police Service requires a framework agreement to cover their need for veterinary services for canine officers and guard dogs/rescue animals.
The canine officers currently consist of patrol dogs, various types of search dogs and recruited puppies. Canine services take place round the clock and assist in a number of areas within the district. Canine handlers also care for their service dog in their free time, around the clock and throughout the entire year.
Canines that are taken into custody and require supervision may need veterinary services that are emergent or planned. This can occur at any time of the day. The police are also contacted about and must manage abandoned animals that are injured/struck by vehicles (dogs, cats and house pets) that may require treatment from a veterinarian.
