In 2018 the central administration and two pilot schools in Rogaland County were certified as Eco-Lighthouse, and the decision was made that all sixth form colleges should be certified. The environmental certification involves a mapping within given criteria; system requirements, working environment, energy, waste, transport, and procurements. Environmental certification will contribute to increasing awareness and knowledge on emissions and the effect on the environment of operations, and will be a tool to reduce them.
A political decision was made that the central administration and the sixth form colleges in the county should be Eco-Lighthouse certified. The status in October 2022 was that approx. half of the county's sixth form colleges were certified. Certified entities must be re-certified every third year.
