Short description

Stokmarknes is the birth place of the coastal steamer. The Coastal Steamer Museum in Stokmarknes was founded in 1993. This year, the 125 year jubilee of the coastal steamer will be marked by the construction start of a new and grand Coastal Steamer Museum. Hadsel municipality is the builder, whilst Museum Nord is responsible for the management of the museum. The existing building on the site is “Trekantbygget”, which shall be altered/extended for the new Coastal Steamer Museum. The building, which was built in 1999, has 3 floors, with a ground area of approx. 300 m2. The new building is a listed building of steel and glass over the old coastal steamer M/S Finnmarken. The ship was taken on to land in 1999 and it is the world´s largest museum object. The listed building shall be connected to Trekantbygget and together, they will be the new Coastal Steamer Museum.
