Background:
The contract is a part of the project ‘National road 3 Alvdal settlement and the new Steien bridge’. The starting point for the project is the Steien bridge over the river Glomma. The bridge is a part of national road 3 and it shall be replaced due to its condition. Local environmental measures shall be carried out through the centre of Alvdal due to the traffic's high speed along national road 3. A preparatory contract is ongoing for the establishment of an interim bridge and the demolition of Steien bridge.
Short description:
Road reference: National road 3, hp 14, pel 19500 - 20300.
The contract is for the establishment of a new bridge and the development of national road 3 through the settlement in order to get more of a street characteristic. The contract shall be carried out from autumn 2014 to autumn 2016. The project is a cooperation between the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Alvdal municipality, Telenor and Nord-Østerdal Kraftlag. Central challenges will be:
— Adaptions to cold conditions;
— Adaptions to the water supply in Glomma;
— Maintaining traffic accessibility and work safety, combined with strict quality requirements;
— Execution of a network arch bridge.
The bridges:
The existing footbridge shall be demolished and removed. The new bridge shall be called Stei bridge and it shall be constructed as a network arch bridge with one span of 88.2 m. The bridge shall have concrete land abutments, lightweight concrete bridge cover and lattice arches in glulam. The network shall consist of steel suspended rods. National road 3 shall go via an interim bridge during the construction period. The interim bridge shall be disassembled, demolished and removed after the traffic starts using the new bridge.
Develop national road 3:
750 m of national road 3 through the settlement shall be developed from having a country road character to a street character. The road line shall be straightened. The surface water installations shall be renewed, the municipality's water and sewage network shall be improved and minor alterations and comprehensive moving of Telenor's and Nord-Østerdal Kraftlag's cable network shall be taken into consideration. Green areas shall be established and ploughed fields shall be re-established. An elipse shaped roundabout shall be established by the Aukrust centre. A total of 500 m new county and municipal roads shall be constructed.
