Midlife upgrade Class 72

Short description

Norske tog (NT) shall conduct a Midlife upgrade of Class 72, and plans to announce a competition for the project within the next months.

Class 72 is a EMU (Electrical Multiple Unit). The total of vehicles is 36. Each vehicle consists four coaches, two motor and two trailer.

The trains are the first low floor trains delivered in Norway. All the sets shall be upgraded.

The trains are designed by Pininfarina, produced by AnsaldoBreda and were delivered between 2002 and 2006. Class 72 have now reached half of the programmed life and to keep a modern standard and comfort a midlife upgrade is necessary.

The estimated date for the announced competition is late September 2017. The deadline for submitting applications for participation will be approx. November 2017. Expected award of contract is February 2018. The first train set shall be ready for use in late 2018. NT expects the deliverances to be completed within 2021.
