The overall research theme is atmospheric chemistry and the role of particles in air quality and climate. The goal is to understand the formation of molecular clusters and their subsequent activation and growth to nano-particles by condensation of low volatile vapors in the atmosphere. The instrument must provide real-time measurements of the concentration and size distribution of the smallest airborne nano-particles approaching molecular size scales (1-4 nm) with high detection efficiency (penetration efficiency ≥ 10 %). 62520.00 Aarhus University will be investing in a particle size magnifier. The Airmodus A11-Nano Condensation Nucleus Counter is currently the only instrument able to do so. The instrument will be used in the laboratory and in the field. It should be portable and must be able to operate as a stand-alone unit without prior charging or particle size selection. The Airmodus A11-Nano Condensation Nucleus Counter is the only instrument that provides size distributions of particles in the size range from 1-4 nm without prior size selection using a differential mobility analyzer and without charging using a radioactive source, soft X-ray technique or similar.
