Havforskningsinstituttet [the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research] currently uses a complex tool for collection of plankton from different depths. The plankton tools that have been used are ‘MOCNESS’, delivered by BESS Inc. in the USA An ‘MultiNet’, delivered by Hydro-Bios in Germany. These 2 tools are comparable regarding properties and possibilities The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research needs 1 plankton net with specific properties. The contracting authority will not sign a contract with a tenderer before 10 days after the notice date at the earliest. 40000.00 The plankton net shall consist of 9 nets that can be opened and closed at the desired depths, and these can be programmed in advance to release the net at the desired depth, or remotely controlled from a vessel. The tool will be used for horizontal towing behind the vessel or vertical stretching. This type of tool has been used for a very long time by the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research and other nations that we collaborate with regarding fisheries management, and is therefore considered standard. To maintain history, continuity, compatibility and collaboration possibilities in this type fisheries management and plankton collection, it is very important to continue with a tool that has equivalent properties and possibilities. The American supplier BESS Inc. has phased out their production, and according to the Norwegian Institute of Maritime Research's market knowledge, Hydro-Bios is now the only supplier of plankton collectors with the desired properties and possibilities. The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research therefore intends to enter into agreement for the procurement of one ‘MultiNet’ Midi from Hydro-Bios.
