E18 the Kjørholt and Bamble tunnels, located on both sides of the Grenland bridge in Telemark County, are two of approx. 200 national road tunnels in Norway which have to be renovated in accordance with the Tunnel Safety Regulations. Some maintenance and considerable rock protection works shall also be executed. A new tunnel shall also be blasted next to the existing tunnel.
Nye Veier AS is currently working on a development plan for the construction of the new E18, a 4-lane motorway from Langangen to Rugtvedt. The existing Kjørholt and Bamble tunnels will be the northbound trace for the future motorway. The works for the entire section are scheduled to be initiated shortly after the completion of this contract.
