Section of Forensic Genetics wish to purchase two 3500xL Genetic Analyzers. Currently, two 3500xL and five 3130xL instruments are used for accredited forensic genetic investigations of reference- and trace samples. New forensic kits rely on up to 6 dyes. 3130xL instruments are incapable of analyzing more than 5 dyes. The current two instruments are being validated for trace-samples and the upgrade of the instruments for criminal case-work require the ability to analyze the same genetic markers for reference samples as well. Both instruments will be qualified and used for validated accredited forensic genetic investigations. The Department of Forensic Medicine, Section of Forensic Genetics (RGA) is a part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. RGA performs accredited forensic genetic analysis of DNA evidence obtained at crime scenes and compares this to reference samples. Reference samples are analyzed in a separate accredited unit at RGA. RGA also performs accredited paternity testing and perform relationship testing in immigration cases. Furthermore, RGA conducts research in areas that may be applied in future forensic genetic investigations.
