Short description

The Transport Division at DTU Management is seeking a smartphone application to collect data on mobility behaviour and attitudes for at least 100 participants as part of the URGENT project. The data collection is intended to start in November 2023, participants will be recruited by DTU.

The app needs to track users’ mobility behaviour and prompt questions. After a training/validation period of max. 2 weeks, where users are asked to actively review and validate their suggested trips, the app should be capable of automatically and accurately detecting chosen travel modes (e.g. car, train, metro, bus, bike, or walking), routes, trip lengths, distances, as well as start and stop times. The app is intended to operate mostly in the background on users’ mobile devices and with as little intervention required by users as possible.

Aside from the tracking functionality, the app should be capable of prompting predefined questions (approx. 10-20 standardized items assessing mobility attitudes on a Likert scale provided by DTU). This should happen in two distinct ways, i.e. periodically (e.g. every month) and more frequently around specific occasions. These occasions should be either pre-specified by the user at sign-up (e.g. if they are planning to retire or relocate on a specific date) or when the app detects a significant change in travel behaviour (e.g. a predefined change in distances travelled or mode choice).

Participants should be informed in detail about the data the app collects and will be asked for their written consent to all the parts of the data collection, data storage, and processing. All personal data are to be treated in accordance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation and com-mon ethical guidelines for good research practice.

The app should be ready to collect data in September 2023. The data collection might be split into two waves (one starting in September 2023, one in March 2024).
