The Norwegian Correctional Services carries out the criminal sanctions imposed by the courts. This occurs through the use of prisons, special measures in criminal law, detention, community punishment and pre-trial detention.
Our vision is "Punishment that changes", and our three values are openness, security and innovation.
The Norwegian Correctional Service is organised into three levels; The Directorate of Correctional Services (KDI), five regional administrations which are administratively superior to local prisons and the probation office. In addition, there is the Prison Service Education Centre [Kriminalomsorgens utdanningssenter (KRUS)]. In total, the agency has around 5,000 employees and a budget of approx. NOK 5 billion.
