Short description

The dialogue conference takes physically place at The Radium Hospital, Research Building (K-building) – Auditorium at the entrance floor.

Proton Therapy at the Radium Hospital, Oslo University Hospital (OUS) Oslo and at Haukeland University Hospital (HUS) Bergen
Photon Therapy at Sykehuset Vestre Viken in Drammen and Sykehuset Telemark in Skien

Proton Therapy Facilities in Oslo and Bergen
Starting construction in 2020, two proton therapy facilities are currently being built in Norway; a new clinic building and a proton therapy building are currently under construction at the Radium Hospital in Oslo; a proton therapy building is under construction at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen.

The proton therapy facility in Oslo will host two clinical gantry rooms and one gantry room for pre-clinical research. The proton therapy facility in Bergen will host one clinical gantry room and one gantry room for both clinical use and pre-clinical research. All clinical gantry rooms will be dosimetrically equivalent.

Oslo and Bergen will have the Pro Beam 360 proton therapy system from Varian Medical Systems, all gantry rooms, 3 in Oslo and 2 in Bergen, will be equipped with the Leoni robotic table system, all clinical gantry rooms will be equipped with kVue One, Proton Couch Top from Qfix, including Base of Skull (BoS) Couch Top.

Proton therapy will be an integral part of the radiation therapy provided at the university hospitals in Oslo and Bergen. Both proton therapy facilities will be equipped with CT and MR scanners for patients that will undergo proton therapy. The purchase of equipment for proton therapy Dosimetry and Quality Assurance will take place as a joint effort between OUS and HUS. For both projects, Oslo and Bergen, the aim is to start up with patient treatment sometime during the second half of 2024.

Equipment for Proton Therapy Dosimetry and Quality Assurance purposes for Oslo and Bergen
All necessary equipment for Dosimetry and Quality Assurance purposes for proton therapy in Oslo and Bergen will be purchased. This includes dosimetry equipment for Acceptance measurements and Quality Control measurements, both machine/treatment room specific and patient specific, for all clinical gantry rooms, this includes large (3D) and smaller (1D) water phantoms, equipment for morning checks in each room, ionization chambers, specific detectors, and so on.

With respect to proton therapy, the purpose with the vendor conference is for the hospitals to obtain information from each vendor concerning the range of relevant equipment and software that this vendor offers. It is important to obtain knowledge about any required additional software and/or if the hospitals can apply existing software systems, already in use at the respective hospitals, for proton therapy purposes. It is along this line also important to obtain knowledge about to which degree common in-house use of proton- and photon therapy equipment is possible.

Information concerning the existing equipment for (photon therapy) Dosimetry and Quality Assurance at the Radium Hospital and at Haukeland University Hospital, respectively, is enclosed.

Equipment for Photon Therapy Dosimetry and Quality Assurance purposes for Skien and Drammen
Radiation therapy is underway at Sykehuset Telemark in Skien, with the aim of start up with treatment in early 2025. Radiation therapy is also underway at Sykehuset Vestre Viken in Drammen, with the aim of start up in the spring 2025. Each of the two hospitals will be equipped with two linear accelerators from the start.

Both Skien and Drammen, two separate projects, will require complete equipment packages for Dosimetry and Quality Assurance purposes. We kindly ask Vendors addressing the Skien and Drammen projects to present their equipment and software for Photon Therapy Dosimetry and Quality Assurance purposes.

To All Vendors:
We kindly ask the Vendors to denote at registration to the conference whether equipment 1) for proton therapy or 2) for photon therapy or 3) for both proton therapy and photon therapy, will be presented by the Vendor during the conference.
