As part of the fit for the future programme across Northern Staffordshire, 64 000 outpatient appointments will be delivered in the community at a facility closer to home. To compliment this, a diagnostic strategy has been shaped to ensure that patients are treated as a “one stop shop” as much as is feasibly possible or receive their care to as close to the patients home as possible.
NHS Stoke on Trent wish to commission an x-ray and non-obstetric ultrasound service for both GP direct access and as a consequence of an outpatient appointment within the facility from a range of specialties. (e.g. T&O, respiratory, general surgery, etc). The service will function from 2 Tier 3 facilities (outpatient and diagnostic centres), within the boundaries of Stoke on Trent, x-ray from Longton Cottage Hospital and non-obstetric ultrasound from Bentilee Neighbourhood Centre.
There is an expectation that there will be approximately 12 000 x-rays and 5 000 ultrasound scans per annum. The intention is for a service start date of 1.10.2011.
