Short description

This contract notice is for the Project insurance of the Nord.Link project to be covered by one or more insurance companies.

The NORD.LINK Interconnector is a +- 500 kilovolt, 1400 Megawatt DC power transmission link from Tonstad in Vest-Agder, Norway, to Wilster in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, planned to be in operation by the end of 2018. The transmission link comprises a 53 km overhead line in Norway, two parallel 516 km submarine power cables, and a 55 km underground cable section in Germany. The given figures are preliminary and are subject to later changes.

The Norwegian Transmission System Operator Statnett SF will own 50 per cent of the project. The other 50 percent will be owned by DC Nordseekabel GmbH & Co. KG, consisting of the shareholders TenneT TSO GmbH (German Transmission System Operator), and KfW Bankengruppe . The high voltage direct current interconnector will connect the electricity systems of Germany and Norway and provide access to a combined larger market for planned renewable energy. The integration of the Norwegian and German electricity markets will ensure improved security of supply, increase market efficiency, and thus contribute to economic value in both countries.

The convertors are based on VSC technology, and the cables are of the mass impregnated non draining (MIND) type. The link is not equipped with electrodes or return conductor.
