The following services will be purchased:

- Acquisition and basic pre-processing of airborne laser scanning (ALS) data and airborne digital photography over an area of 1800 km2 in five areas in Taita Taveta County, Makueni County and Machakos County, Kenya

- Platform for simultaneous acquisition of hyperspectral imagery over an area of 800 km2 with a sensor (AisaKESTREL10) provided by the client. The tender should provide training for the use of the sensor.

This purchase is part of the University of Helsinki coordinated ESSA-project (Earth observation and environmental sensing for climate-smart sustainable agro-pastoralism ecosystem transformation in East Africa) funded by the European Union and led by Professor Petri Pellikka. Service to be purchased:-Aqcuisition and basic pre-processing of airborne laser scanning (ALS) data and airborne digital photography over an area of 1800 km2 in five areas in Taita Taveta County, Makueni County and Machakos County, Kenya

- Platform for simultaneous acquisition of hyperspectral imagery over an area of 800 km2 with a sensor (AisaKESTREL10 provided by the client. The tender should provide training for the use of the sensor.

Schedule: The flight campaigns should be organized in Kenya starting in January 2022 and completed as soon as possible, depending on the weather conditions in the area. The target areas 1-5 should be completed within January and February, while the others can be completed until June 2022. Each study area (detailed below) should be covered within two weeks to make sure that vegetation status does not change too much within the survey period.

Target areas: The target areas are Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary (THWS), LUMO community Ranch, Maktau, Taita Hills, Mbololo, Taveta and Kasigau in Taita Taveta County. Kibwezi and Chyulu Hills in Makueni County, Kapiti Ranch in Machakos County, and Choke Ranch. The specifications for these areas are given in Attachment 1 and shown in the KML file (Attachment 6).
